What is new in Torrevieja in 2026? Harbour, Levante breakwater and more

Torrevieja is changing noticeably in 2026. Several projects around the harbour, city centre and transport network also affect visitors. This article focuses on changes that can be checked against official sources.

The Levante breakwater is fully open again

The Dique de Levante reopened at the end of March 2026 after major renovation work on its promenade. The walk out over the sea is once again one of the easiest free activities in the centre of Torrevieja.

The reopened breakwater and the work around its entrances are separate projects. Additional work on access, lighting, safety and nearby public areas was awarded in July.

Eras de la Sal is being transformed

The city approved a major project for Eras de la Sal in 2026. Plans include a new Museo del Mar y de la Sal, restoration of historic salt infrastructure and a stronger connection between the harbour, sea and city centre.

For visitors, the important point is that Torrevieja's history as a salt-producing town should become much easier to understand in a central part of the city.

Parking and traffic around the centre have changed

A temporary parking area of just over 7,000 square metres opened near Avenida de la Estación at the end of July. Since 3 August, parking on the affected section of Calle Ramón Gallud is allowed from midnight until 20:00 and prohibited from 20:00 until midnight.

Harbour works have also changed traffic arrangements around Paseo de la Libertad, so current signs are more useful than old parking advice when driving into the centre.

The new city bus network is now running

The reorganised urban bus network started on 27 July. During the high season, published daytime frequencies vary by route between roughly 14 and 30 minutes, with three night routes running hourly until 03:30 in the summer timetable.

The city's implementation plan says the new cards and fare system are due to follow in October 2026.
